“Poor Things” was the second-most nominated film going into the 2024 Oscars, boasting 11 nods including for best picture and actress in a leading role for Stone.

“The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot — that maybe something like this could happen and Yorgos [Lanthimos] said to me, please take yourself out of it,” Stone said in her acceptance speech. “And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts.”

In his review of the film, Variety film critic Guy Lodge wrote that “Lanthimos serves up a macabre sensory banquet miles from his former Greek weird-wave ascetism, but just as subversive.”
